Errors

I was on a very packed tube train last night and it was a bit difficult to read a book, so I just stood there staring into space and occasionally glancing at the tube ads. I was reading one for a Nivea for Men product and noticed a glaring error in it. This is not the identical ad, the one I saw was a shorter version, rather than full size poster, but this one has exactly the same error:

“Who would of thought”????

"Who would OF thought”??????

What is the world coming to????

It is “Who would have thought”.

That is such a basic error. Nivea needs to have a serious word with their proof-readers - or start to employ some.

I thought it read well!

Kahless, Kahless, Kahless what hope is there for the future if we can use the word "of" instead of "have". If they can't get an ad right, what if they accidentally put tin instead of silver into their product. Then where would be? That's right, potentially like a character out of the Wizard of Oz. This has serious implications!

Now who would of thought that it could all turn out to have serious implications eh?

btw, "then where would be" is missing a 'we'?

BTW2, I did a good deed today. After I thought of you saying before that you needed your tally of good deeds upped, so I spoke to the pwers that be and they have credited your account.

Yes it's serious!

But also how easily I fall off my high horse by failing to do my own proof-reading...

Thanks for the credit. Only about 999,999 to go.

I despair at the state of the English in some publications. Especially on shop signs and notices. It makes me cringe! I am also pedantic and easily annoyed when it comes to such issues..
Btw-I haven't forgotten you. I've just been mega busy. I have a name and number for you on my desk at work; I just haven't got round to calling you yet!

Lemonpillows - stray apostrophes seem to be one of the biggest issues for people.

Thanks for your help. I shall await your call!

Ohh, I'd to write to them if I were you! Eiher that or take a red pen with you tomorrow and correct the poster! I can't see errors like that without pointing them out to someone (ANYONE).

There's a hospital near my house, and the name of the hospital on the big sign at the front of the building has a spelling mistake. I pass it every day, and it drives me mad! I've written a letter to them, but I've not had the courage to send it yet... I figure they have more important things to worry about, given the nature of their business, but it's bothering me!

teeny - *whispers* I may have sent them an e-mail to point out this error and they may have sent a reply telling me that they were sorry for the error and have referred it to their marketing department. But obviously I can neither confirm or deny this...

Send your letter, hospitals are meant to heal and it will start your own healing process instead of it inflicting you with pain.

Oh and... I really wanted to tell someone else while I was on the tube and share my outrage but I thought my fellow passengers might think I was a bit mad.

I heard that whisper!

Kahless! But of course you would never tell anyone else... I may be willing to beg. That was just a conversation between me and the blogging universe... *looks ashamed*
